While he cannot understand his incessant preoccupation with Karen, he finally understands that he loves her. It is during the agony of not being able to find her, that he finds Christ.
Two months later, JM receives a call from a deputy sheriff in Sierra Bend telling him his stolen Jaguar has been found. Even though a storm is gathering, JM has an inexplicable urge to immediately retrieve his car and hires a private plane to fly him to Montrose where the deputy sheriff meets his plane and drives him to Sierra Bend.
