About the author
Coach Van was a well known and respected boys high school basketball coach at Peoria Manual High School, located in Peoria Illinois, a hotbed of Illinois basketball. He had the distinction of becoming the second coach in state history to be named Illinois' winningest basketball coach by unseating Arther A. Trout. He remains third on the all time wins list. Van, as he is affectionately known started his coaching career in small rural farm communities but moved to Peoria Manual, an inner city school in 1966 during the civil rights movement. His impact is documented through his players, colleagues and friends. His lessons are still being felt.
