About the author
Edith Van Cobb Owen was born October 6, 1929, in LaCrosse, VA. She was the seventh out of ten sisters and brothers. She is married to Sam Owen, and has two daughters, Debby and Sandy. She is both artistically and musically talented. She has played the guitar, drums, autoharp, piano, and dulcimer. She has always enjoyed singing and harmonizing with others. She is the artist of eight paintings from the Bible, which now hang in St. James Methodist Chapel in Raleigh, NC. She has been commissioned to do portraits and other paintings many times, has taught beginners art, and has painted designs on gourds grown by Sam's nephew. She also painted wood carvings, and could make useful, pretty crafts with items that many would usually throw away. She began jotting down memories years ago, thinking she may write a book someday, and Mama's Tree is the result of her work.
