L. M. Kinney credits all of his talents to God, his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. A native of Chicago, Illinois where he grew up, he relocated to Texas in 1991 and attended college, earning a Degree in Network and Communication. With a talent for art he progressed to technical drawing. His first love was poetry and he discovered he had a talent to express his thoughts and ideas. Mama Never Said There Would Be Days Like This is his first novel. His idea to write the book first surfaced in September of 2011, after he experienced a pretty bad breakup that turned his world upside down, but instead of scars it left him with a story to tell. He felt there were things he had experienced that could be shared whether as entertainment or helpful information. “Life is always interesting ask anyone who’s living it, more important than the information is how you utilize it.” L.M Kinney. Although all of the characters and situations in his book are fictional, art does often imitate life. “I actually don’t enjoy writing, hated it since I was a kid, it hurt my hand.” However also believing that one should use all of the talents God gives you, he eventually put pen to paper or in this age of technology 'fingers to keys.'
