Description
A business how-to for musicians searching for their niche. Completely re-written from a collection of popular blog articles from the author's web-site and which are partly based on reader feedback. Chapters draw from the considerable experience of the author and include information for assisting aspiring musicians and producers with their music careers. This would include original takes on what it takes to be a music producer; make great recordings; understand copyright law and licensing for protecting your work and not getting into trouble; how to fire up your creative imagination; understanding industry trends and how to use that to your advantage, and last but not least; how to sell your product.
About the author
Steffen Presley has been a musician since starting lessons at age five on accordion, followed by clarinet, piano and organ. A music and composition major in college, his studies included advanced piano, music theory and copyright law. At just seventeen years of age, a popular local band he was in garnered a recording contract. This resulted in the release of a single featuring Steffen's original songs, and was played on radio throughout California. While working many years gigging as a keyboardist, he took up synthesizers, tenor and alto saxophone, drums and electric guitar. After moving to Los Angeles, he continued performing in bands, including one which released several albums via major label recording contracts. During this time, he also worked as a session player, with performance credits on many albums, including many major label artists representing a variety of styles. In the early 1990's Steffen established a production company called "Endless Productions" which includes his own recording studio, where he has produced, arranged and recorded for dozens of artists, often doing most of the instrument performances. Endless Productions includes an in-house design studio, which provides complete artist packages; creating album artwork, web-site design, posters and ads. Steffen also created a record company called "Terraform Records", still in operation today. In addition to composing and selling his own recordings, he also composes music for film and corporate presentations. In 2003 Steffen opened a new studio called "Song-Haven Studios" located in Southern California, where he utilizes lots of modern recording gear. The studio also includes a world-class grand piano, a Hammond B3 organ and Leslie, synthesizers of all types plus an expanded Roland V-drum kit. His recording skills have advanced to include professional mixing and mastering, while continuing to produce, arrange and perform for artists locally, across the country and around the world!
