Makiah Shipp is a student at The University of Michigan where she studies African American Studies. She is a Detroit native who is committed to encouraging youth, specifically young Black girls, to advocate for themselves and embrace their identities. As an award winning activist, she hopes to continue representing communities like hers by inserting herself in seemingly intimidating and unwelcoming spaces. As a new author, Makiah has established herself as a civic engagement activist hoping to empower young Black girls to thrive in all spaces.

Makiah's Show and Tell follows the story of a young Black girl who makes it her mission to educate those around her about the importance of her Black natural hair. The story aims to comfort and steer the many young Black girls who are regularly targeted because of their racial and gender identity. It provides these girls with a guide-book style story to reinforce their confidence and encourage them to properly educate those around them.
