Makiah Shipp is a student at The University of Michigan where she studies African American Studies. She is a Detroit native who is committed to encouraging youth, specifically young Black girls, to advocate for themselves and embrace their identities. As an award winning activist, she hopes to continue representing communities like hers by inserting herself in seemingly intimidating and unwelcoming spaces. As a new author, Makiah has established herself as a civic engagement activist hoping to empower young Black girls to thrive in all spaces.

The story aims to comfort and steer the many young Black girls who are regularly targeted because of their racial and gender identity.
