Little Orion and his Granny

By Lasandra Powell

Overview

I decided to write a book that shows a child living his life without being held back by his disability. I wanted to shine a light on kids who face disabilities and may not feel comfortable in their own skin or confident living their lives fully. Many children are picked on because of their disabilities and are often denied a fair chance due to low self-esteem and a lack of belief and drive in themselves.

Growing up, I saw my mom struggle with accepting that she was hearing impaired. She often worried about what others would think or say about her. Experiencing that as a child, and now having a child of my own, I never wanted him to feel the same way. I’ve raised him with confidence and high self-esteem, teaching him that he can do anything he sets his mind to.

Description

Orion plays basketball and has a strong support system made up of family, friends, coaches, and teachers. He doesn’t let his hearing or speech challenges hold him back. He is very confident in himself and brings his granny so much joy and happiness with the way he carries himself, with pride and high self-esteem in everything he does.

He is helpful and also inspires others. His hearing does not control his life; he has full control over what happens and what he chooses to pursue. We hope to uplift and encourage anyone who may feel like they don’t have a fair chance in life due to a lack of support or feelings of helplessness. You are more than your disability, and the world deserves to see who you truly are.

Stay true to yourself and continue being the amazing person you are.

I hope this book brings you light, hope, and joy.

About The Author

Hi, my name is Lasandra Powell. I was born and raised in Florida. I'm a mother of four handsome boys. My second oldest son Orion has partial hearing loss which also has some effects on his speech. I've always wanted to write my own book and was inspired by my son to be able to fulfill that dream of minds. Encouraging and uplifting others has always been a passion of minds so writing this book and being to tell my son story has also given others some encouragement to not allow their disability to hold them back in life but take charge and stay in control.
