Shawn Murphy is an underwater photographer, cave diver, scuba instructor, and visual storyteller whose work explores the hidden beauty of the underwater world. Before building a life around diving and photography, Shawn walked away from a career as a gourmet chef and followed a pull toward the ocean, travel, and creative freedom. What began as a search for something different became a full commitment to documenting the places most people will never see: flooded caves, coral reefs, shipwrecks, marine life, and the strange spaces beneath the surface. His journey has taken him from the macro paradise of the Philippines to the vibrant reefs of the Caribbean, from big shark encounters in the Bahamas to the surreal flooded cave systems of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. Over time, the cenotes of the Riviera Maya became one of his deepest obsessions. Their beams of light, ancient limestone passages, still water, and cathedral-like chambers changed the way he saw photography. Shawn is a professional underwater photographer, PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, TDI Full Cave Diver, GUE-trained technical diver, IANTD multi-stage cave, decompression, and trimix diver, SSI Advanced Freediver, and underwater photography coach.
