About the author
Elizabeth Ely is an author and musician based on the West Coast of Canada. Having enjoyed a successful career as a harpist, she is now following a lifelong passion to write full-time, combining her love of words and emotions into a music all their own. "Life's Attic" is her first novel.
Elizabeth began playing the harp at age three, first performed publicly at five, later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music in Harp Performance, entertained on cruise ships throughout Alaska and the Caribbean, and was the resident harpist for the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, British Columbia for 15 years.
In her time focusing on the harp, Elizabeth released three solo harp CDs that reflect her love of music and it's many styles. She has also appeared in the ABC Family TV movie "I Want to Marry Ryan Banks" (2004) with Jason Priestly, Emma Caulfield, and Bradley Cooper.
Arranging a lot of music herself, Elizabeth has played everything from Pachelbel's "Canon in D" to "Star Trek - The Search for Spock" to "Clair de Lune" to "Stairway to Heaven." Her last CD, "From My Harp," continued the eclectic mix with selections ranging from Smetana's "The Moldau" to Iron Butterfly's "In A Gadda Da Vida."
Speaking about her first novel, Elizabeth says, “'Life's Attic' is not a sad book, emotional yes, but not depressing. There is joy, hope and humour to be found in everything. Through the optimistic eyes of Jay and Leanne there’s so much to explore about what ultimately awaits us all. Forget the certainty of death and taxes, I say it’s death and love—if we’re lucky.”
Elizabeth lives and writes in Victoria, British Columbia and is currently working on her next novel.
