Overview
An anthology of autobiographical and biographical lifeguard short stories from the perspective of a career beach lifeguard.
Description
"Life In The Tower" is an anthology of lifeguard short stories focusing on harrowing to humorous experiences on the beaches of Southern California. Included at the end are a couple of fictional short stories that make for an exceptional read. The author has a generous heart for the reader. His sensory details and personal insights help put the reader into the story, and his way with dramatization keeps the pages turning.
About the author
In 1968 at the age of 17, Steve moved with his family from Bakersfield California to the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula in Souther California. He spent every spare moment playing in the surf at Torrance and Redondo Beaches. Being a competitive swimmer from eight years of age through college made it easy for him to consider trying out for a summer job as an L.A. County beach lifeguard. It was his love of the water that eventually led him to make lifeguarding a full-time career. During this 25 year stint on the beaches, he had written several short stories about his own experiences and those of others. He has recently shaken the sand off these biographies and put them into print. It's his hope these stories are an enjoyable read for those familiar as well as unfamiliar with the beach lifeguard way of life.
