Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Liberated Woman is a poetry series by Betrice Coleman-Sweet. It is an expression of experiences of trauma, racism, teenage motherhood, self-discovery, spirituality, health, and love. The series contains poems that she has written as early as 11 years old and is ongoing. Her goal is to showcase cultivating endless possibilities just by going within.
About the author
Betrice Coleman-Sweet started writing at an early age about her life experiences growing up in South Central Los Angeles. It started out with poetry and short stories. She gave birth to her son, RaShaun in 1992 at 16 years old. She was a high achiever throughout her school years including college. In 2004, Betrice met her life partner, Bea Sweet. They later tied the knot in Big Bear California in May of 2005. In 2010, she began writing articles and blogs. Throughout her career, she was asked edit and write key documents for chief corporations and non-profit organizations. Some of her articles and blogs have been published on various renowned media outlets such as Yahoo, LA Times, Variety and News-Press. B's love for communication and community compelled her to create Serving Angels Media in February 2009. Her vision is to uplift and "shine the light" on the individuals, organizations, and companies whose purpose is to give to the communities in which they serve. Serving Angels, a "full-service" Communications Consulting Firm. Betrice is a communications coach with an emphasis on storytelling through strategic planning, social marketing, blogging, public relations, event coordination, and executive coaching. Serving Angels Media also hosted workshops presented by transformational, leadership, and community leaders throughout Los Angeles. She is diligent with assessing her client's needs and support them with getting their message out into the world.. Her past clients include celebrities, public figures, several prominent businesses and non-profit organizations. The motto for Serving Angels is "Serving The People Who Serve". In summer 2012, B became a graduate of Americorp's Public Allies Los Angeles Program which allowed her to serve the community and strengthen her leadership development skills. Public Allies is also where she was voted by her peers and staff as "The Hugganista" because she loves to give big hugs. Betrice is currently the General Manager at Black Onyx World, LLC in Fort Myers, Florida. She has been with the company for over 6 years. Her resounding passion involves empowering people to own their stories as a way to connect and ignite social change one community at a time. Betrice is a mother, wife, writer, community server, and evolutionary hugger.
