Description
In 2013, Barbara Anderson walked 600 miles on the GR 653, from Arles, France to Puente la Reina, Spain. At the beginning of her walk she wrote letters to her family and a few close friends. By the end, she was writing to more than fifty people. Barbara left these letters largely unchanged to preserve all that she did not know about the coming rains or the personalities of the people she would meet. The letters are her reflections along the way. They are her musings about the weather and her fellow pilgrims, about vultures and butterflies, about lessons to learn and spiritual questions to answer. They are not a travelogue, a daily blog of events, or recommendations for the best places to stay. They are, however, a good resource if you are wondering what it would be like to set out on your own and take a long, a very long walk. Barbara also took photographs as did some of the other people she walked with. These images are an essential part of the record of her journey. They let you see what Barbara and her fellow walkers saw along the way. At the end of the walk, when she returned home, Barbara reached out to the friends who had received her letters to ask a deeply personal question about their own spiritual journeys. Their responses, as varied as the landscape and weather along the way are included.
About the author
Barbara V. Anderson is an artist, writer, and walker. Her journeys are long walks that slow a busy life and provide space for explorations beyond the minutia of everyday existence. Sharing what she learns is as much a part of her as is the walking itself.
