Malik H. Majeed
Malik H. Majeed was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. Three
generations of his family have deep roots in the city's lively community.
His distinct perspective as a writer is informed by his past as a former
Corrections Officer, who drew from his experiences and views within the
criminal justice system. His interest in ancient tales and cultural legacy
stems from Malik Majeed's love of history, especially the stories that are
overlooked or ignored.
Growing up in Newark's Muslim community, Malik learned Islamic principles and
teachings, which shaped his thoughts on modern problems including racism,
religion, and power. A lifelong curiosity about his origins drove him to research
his family tree, which in turn piqued his interest in investigating various aspects of
ethnicity and identity, especially as they relate to American Indian history and its
intricate relationships to other cultural narratives.
Malik's most recent book, Roc The Mike, takes readers on an exploration of time
by combining secret stories with common human experiences. This story-based
journey shows how history, society, and personal identity are connected. As a
writer, Malik wants to make people think, talk, and question common beliefs so
that his readers can have a better understanding of the world.
