Lakota Audio Series: A Practical Conversation Course, Volume 1 eBook has 131 lessons for hours of language study that meets the highest standards for independent language learning. When used in conjunction with the Lakota Audio Series: A Practical Conversation Course, Volume 1 CD set, this eBook allows a more complete and thorough understanding of the course. Whether used with the CDs or by itself, this eBook lets you bookmark lessons, skip around through the units, and work across several devices. The lessons take you through important beginner-level work based on how the Lakota language is really used. Actions and verbs become your focus, as the Lakota language is based on movement and relationship, instead of “things” as in English. This re-orientation and practice of subtly changing the spoken verb will instruct you in how to be an effective speaker. Lessons include: Yes/no questions · Greetings and kinship · Vocabulary for household situations · Demonstrative pronouns (this, these, that) · 1st, 2nd, & 3rd person verb forms (I, you, they) · Changes to verb endings (ablaut) · Voicing unique Lakota sounds (nasal, aspirated) Lakota Audio Series: A Practical Conversation Course, Volume 1 eBook immerses you in Lakota in a way that creates a deep intuitive grasp of the language and establishes a strong base for fluency.

About the author

Lakota Language Consortium is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation, revitalization, and promotion of the Lakota language. LLC provides a wide range of pedagogical and technical support to help schools and communities save the language. We lead the revitalization of Lakȟótiyapi by educating the public on the issue and by providing critical support to language teachers and learners. Working within close access to 20,000 Lakota children, we produce needed textbooks, computer-based multimedia materials, classroom visual aids, and provide teacher training to schools. Our curricula are designed to create linguistic proficiency in Lakota among students after five years and fluency after an eight-year sequence of classes. Separate curriculum for Lakota are devised for each grade, pre-school to through college. LLC also works to promote activities in Lakota communities that support the use of the language. We have successfully established a Lakota language radio show, and future plans include language camps, cultural events, and media activities. We also carry out national and international fund raising and public relation campaigns to support the primary activities of the organization, and to promote a wider awareness of the acute problem of Native language loss in North America.
