Description
Kenny Russ Warren’s 60,000 word novel ‘Kneel and Kit: Magnificent Brotherhood’ is the story of wildlife enthusiast Kit Warner, 10, of Vancouver Island, who meets a young Bigfoot, his own age, after the Bigfoot’s father, Thunderhead, saves Kit from a ‘killer’ grizzly. The two youths become fast friends, and Kit’s little brother, Marcus, 8, is included in the group. In exchange for teaching Kneel some English words, the young Bigfoot introduces Kit and Marcus to many of his wildlife friends. Two villains in the story are this notorious neighbour who wants the police to join him in the 'seek and destroy' search for Sasquatches, and the angry grizzly who has already tasted human meat and wants Kit and Marcus for lunch. Meanwhile the young threesome discovers that the grizzly has been stalking the Warner's farm, so they conspire to trap the hostile bear. However, it isn’t the bear that accidentally gets trapped. In order to save Kneel, who has been wounded and captured by the police,Jack pretends to negotiate with the police to trap Thunderhead (a much more dangerous prize), using the wounded Kneel as a lure. Thunderhead and Kit save Kneel when Jack's double cross of the cops works. However, the wounded Kneel signs an end of friendship message to Kit who is crushed by the message. Kit, who knows the friendship is over, and Kneel angry with him, falls into deep depression and is diagnosed by a General Surgeon as dying of a broken heart; a psychosomatic condition. Kit’s family is devastated.
About the author
Who is Kenny Russ Warren? Before teaching high school English and history in British Columbia for 27 years, and a year in California, he was a news reporter for the Winnipeg Tribune and Victoria Daily Colonist professionally, and part time with the Vancouver Sun and Ottawa Journal, while attending university in those latter two cities. After taking early retirement from teaching in Victoria, Kenny spent the next seven years teaching English in a myriad of Chinese cities: Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Yangshuo, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Nanchang--each in a different province. China was the experience of a lifetime. Many of his ex-students are now in universities in Canada and the USA, and on Facebook with him.
