KHAPCHHARA: RABINDRANATH TAGORE

This book includes the translation of Rabindranath Tagore's poems in Khapchhara. Born in 1861, Tagore was a Nobel laureate in literature. He was not only a versatile poet, but also a great story writer, composer, playwright, and philosopher. Tagore introduced new prose and verse styles in Bangla by using informal language in literary writing. He died in 1941. Tagore's Khapchhara (which literally means mismatch) belong to the genre of literary nonsense. They generally combine absurdities with seriousness, balancing multiplicity of meanings with perceptible incongruities. Scratching beneath the surface, the reader may find in most of these poems an oblique reference to the cultural, political, or social issues of his time, some of which still exist. I have made an effort to keep the original spirit of the work as much as possible. In order to make the audience familiar with the context, the Bangla versions of the works have also been included in the book.
