"James and His ADHD Superpowers" is an illustrated book that explains aspects of ADHD to children in a positive and empowering way. This is the story of two brothers who band together and used their superpower to battle ADHD, aka Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder which is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. With the right books, kids can learn to think positively about their ADHD and see it as a special asset. Join James, a boy suffering from ADHD, on a journey toward realizing he can make his struggle his strength. Just like this, we can help our children understand that they are not alone in their journey and that they can make their fight their strength. One of the most important parts of any parent and child's ADHD journey is finding positive and child-friendly materials to share and discuss. Getting the correct perspective early in life is necessary in finding one's place in the world, and with the help of James your child can come to find success while dealing with their ADHD.
About the author
Author Angela D. Kohn is a Registered Nurse by profession. She wrote James and His ADHD Superpowers to bring awareness to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, a common neurodevelopmental disorder that she and her young son both share. Her book is based on personal experience and conveys that people with ADHD can thrive once they learn how to manage their symptoms. Angela's book provides a different view of ADHD as a condition that is traditionally considered a disadvantage and demonstrates how people with ADHD can be just as successful as those without the condition when they learn the techniques that will help them flourish. And that, in fact, their struggles can turn into their biggest strengths. The author was struck, while writing her story, at how lucky her son is to have a parent with ADHD who can relate and help him with his struggles, as she was not afforded the same opportunity to be diagnosed at an early age. It was only as a young adult that she learned how to manage her symptoms and turn what she had previously considered her weakness (a fast brain) into a positive (intense creativity and imagination). She was inspired to share her story one year ago after her son was diagnosed with ADHD, and she developed a treatment plan to ensure that he would be successful in school and not struggle in his personal life. Angela hopes that her young readers and their families learn from reading her book to identify ADHD strategies and use those tools to help their child better manage their symptoms so that they feel empowered and accepted. When she isn't writing inspiring children's stories, Angela loves to create things—from writing television show scripts to creating apps for kids with game developers to designing interior spaces, and philanthropy. A retired RN and wellness advocate and strong believer in faith, Angela enjoys spending time with her family and her two skinny pigs in Southern California where she lives. James and His ADHD Superpowers is her debut children's book.
