Eight year old Will and his sister, eleven year old Sara lived in the largest mansion in the United States in 1952, owned by their late grandfather. Will and Sara's lives are thrown into chaos, enduring the sinking of the Northwind, dealing with sharks, storms and starvation, relying only on their wits and close relationship to stay alive. Karen has resided in Oregon since her ancestors traveled across the Oregon Trail. She shares a big two-story house built in 1898 with her husband, two dogs and one cat. She enjoys the abundant wildlife Oregon has to offer, especially the birds, flowers, and spending time with her three grown children and their families, including the many friends that enrich their lives.
