Inspirational Poems of a 1930s Woman

A Genealogical Mystery and a Glimpse into History

By Mary Brennan-Hobbins

Overview

After their father passed away, eight siblings discovered an secret treasure: A binder of original poetry. The author appeared to be unknown but was later discovered to be a great-great-aunt. When Mary Brennan-Hobbins read the poems, she was deeply touched by their charming rhythm and heartfelt expression. Compelled to see the pieces published, she worked to take her aunt's poetry from a dusty 88-year-old manuscript to a finished book so the world could also enjoy this glimpse into the life of a devout woman of faith. The poet's words celebrate nature and family, with a sensitivity to the seasons and passage of time, reflecting a deep sense of self-awareness, gratitude to God, love, and the preciousness of life. Not only for Christians, Inspirational Poems from a 1930s Woman is also for all lovers of the natural world and anyone who appreciates poetry as a means of self-expression and prayerful praise.

A labor of love The story of how this publication came to be is so interesting and unique. A family connected through the centuries by the beauty of poetry. I loved Mabel's works, particularly "Take Thy Time" and "The Years". Mary did a wonderful job of adding commentary, giving enough backstory to Mabel's life and experiences that all readers can feel they knew her. Loved this! Highly recommend Read more
