Overview

This memoir chronicles the author's recovery from PTSD after being raped by a friend. It addresses mental health stigma, sexual trauma and recovery within a context of patriarchy and rape culture.  The primary setting is in her therapist's office.  Rich relationships between the author and her support system unfold throughout her recovery as she learns to live with and recover from PTSD.

Description
This memoir chronicles Anna's recovery from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after being raped by a friend. She shares about her battles with anxiety, suicidal ideation, binge-drinking, rage, sleepless nights, nightmares, flashbacks, and more as she struggles to cope with limited support. Anna begins healing in 2014, 12 years after her trauma. She builds a support system that includes a dance/movement therapist, massage therapist, canine good citizen, meditation group, family and friends. Anna engages in Internal Family Systems, takes medication, sleeps with crystals on her heart, and learns to reach out for help when she needs it. Her friends and family build their knowledge and understanding of PTSD so they may better support her. Readers will be left with an understanding of the mental health field and a sense of hope that the brain, body and heart can heal and thrive after sexual trauma.
