Overview

Intense personal expression defines Immediacy. The poems convey meaningfully our feelings and experiences and thoughtfully peak our interests in a range of subjects. Each poems has individuality, concise phrasing and thoughtful structure. Varying rhythms enliven the reading.

The poems bring to readers shared emotions, thoughts, places, imaginations or experiences in a thought-provoking and pleasing style. The collection is strong and relevant communication between the artist's inner self and the reader's inner self.

Description

The poems in Immediacy are contained and effective and reveal the subjects' values. Carefully phrased stanzas relate more than a plethora of descriptive paragraphs or physical spectacle and bring the reader to a shared thought, emotion, experience or imagination.

The author stresses originality, richness, diversity and relevance to the reader. He accentuates the prose style with interesting abstractions and rhythms that don't overpower or distract from the subject. His focus is serious and complete within each poem.

About the author

Rod Cockrum's interest in communications began in literature and history classes. Studying Shakespeare, Europe's Romantic Era and contemporary poets in college was exceptionally influential and a valuable reference for motivation.

He acted in local theatre 15 years for college, summer stock and other venues. He is a guitarist/songwriter/lyricist and writes in different styles. He works also in watercolors and showed sculptures in area galleries.

He tries to activate readers with unique phrasing and believes that a written piece of art is more than passive representation. He believes that well written pieces have power to connect us with and stimulate our feelings and subconsciously stored experiences, images and ideologies. He uses the written word to activate emotions and thoughts and to relate human experiences.

He lives in southeastern Minnesota and has a Liberal Arts Degree from Riverland Community College in Austin, Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications and Theatre Arts from Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minnesota.
