Description
Idol Life is one woman's introspective musings on the current cultural and personal pressures of women to meet a standard of perfection (at least outwardly) in areas of physical looks, parenting, wealth building, and career goals. The reflective writing addresses some of the more prevalent areas where our expectations are likely to become our idols. We are pressured and enticed to "live out" our dreams -- which is all well and good if they line up with God's Word and if they actually are achieved; however, in many cases our "dream world" is not our reality. As we struggle to reconcile our every day lives with what we thought our lives would be, we are open to disillusionment, anger, or resentment toward God for not "making our dreams come true." We may find ourselves putting our expectations for our lives on a shelf, just as we would an idol and worshipping those expectations. This plays out when we deny what God is trying to teach us in order to obtain what we think will make us happiest. As with any human sin or foible, God is ever faithful to love us and pursue us even when we are far away from Him. He is with us in our grief when the unexpected happens. He does not measure our faith by our circumstances, but rather by our relationship with Him.
