Description
Hood Is Gonna Love This - #HiGLT is a 2-part book with part 1 being poems selected for BE's 1st recorded album. The book talks about the hueman experience from the perspective of a Black person, a woman, a Black woman, yet universally receivable, written in a language the people overstand. The poems are of discovery and entering consciousness as it chronicles my life in my early 20’s, lessons that I learned, the states of being between start and finish, with commentary after some poems, and reveals society from an insider’s personal story. The mood is an evolving one, with tones as diverse as I am a person; Gritty, quiet, blunt, soothing, inquisitive, honest, full, organic, passionate, raw, and dignified.
About the author
Be the poet is vivacious poet with a love for life that's pursued with drive and commitment. Earth bound June 20, this extraterrestrial has been through school fights, family breakdowns, and an overall journey to finding herself. VISUAL art was her 1st way of expressing herself. That wasn't enough so she saved a special space in the back of her notebook to write. While in high school down in Georgia she met her future best friend and poetic inspiration Destinee; open and unafraid about who she was, our poet, then a very self kept person, aspired to achieve the same for herself. As a result of this bond at age 15, Be claimed her title as a Poet. Through her newly acclaimed title, she reached a new plateau of self expression. It wasn't until March 2008, after having moved back to her hometown Harlem, NY, that she hit her 1st stage at 449 La Scat open mic show, " Friday Nite Live w/ Ronnie". There she met 3 poets, RainMaker, D-Black, and Brother Earl, that opened the door to a new realm. In April 2009 she started hosting an open mic under an accredited poet Kasim Allah until the shows end in November of that year. That domino knocked on the door to her 1st feature in an erotic poetry showcase by a close friend of Kasim named Dash Smith of Writehand Ent. Dash had become a mentor in business, as well as companion for Be. Be is also a volunteer for poetry company Burrows Ink, having stage directed sold out shows with 200+ pple in attendance, hosted a Stop the Violence concert Aug 2009, with president Obamas youth advisor as a special guest speaker, designing logos and working her visual art, establishing her own company RSB EXpressions in January of 2010 with its 1st production, "Soul & Sassy" June 19, 2010 also doubling as a celebration of her 21st birthday. Her poems are her lessons telling you who she was, who she is, who she wants to be, and how she got to these places and states of "being". You will be spiritually enlightened, hear about whats real, and what you didn't expect all in one package. Introducing - "BE" The Poet!
