Overview
"Your mother is safe as long as you stay in Monaldo and work for me. Otherwise who knows what will happen to her." Harry Harrigan, bright young accountant, can't believe what his father is saying. But Les Harrigan has already given Una one beating, bringing Harry quickly back to his hometown from Brisbane bent on revenge. But his father's calm threats leave him powerless. He resigns his good job in Brisbane, bids farewell to all the girls he has loved and settles in Monaldo, hundreds of miles from Brisbane. He bides his time, trying to provoke his father into a fight that will end the standoff. Meanwhile, he's determined to enjoy life. Big, handsome and friendly Harry has numerous romances until he meets Sara Grayson, a beautiful young girl from Elmsford, a small cattle town a few miles down the road. They are engaged at two parties, one at Elmsford where the young cattlemen, wanting Sara for themselves, put him to tests which he passes easily, and another at his parents' mansion in Monaldo. There a young woman appears with a child, claiming it is Harry's. He denies it but Sara, upset and confused, flees the engagement and resists all Harry's entreaties. Harry has a fight with his father and he and his mother go to Brisbane where Harry is employed by a big American financial company, Balfour G. After intense training he is destined for overseas but traces his accuser and tells Sara. They are reunited but she has made a hasty and bad marriage and cannot free herself from her devious husband who has long left the marriage. Harry devises a slightly illegal scheme to be put into action by his uncle while he is overseas. He quickly becomes the company's top investigator, solving embezzlements and frauds all over the world with no break. He is put in charge of the company's biggest case, in Europe, and his life is threatened......
Description
"Your mother is safe as long as you stay in Monaldo and work for me. Otherwise who knows what will happen to her." Harry Harrigan, bright young accountant, can't believe what his father is saying. But Les Harrigan has already given Una one beating, bringing Harry urgently back to his hometown from Brisbane, bent on revenge. His father's calm threats leave him powerless so he resigns his good job in Brisbane, farewells the girls he's loved and settles back into Monaldo, a prosperous country town near the Great Dividing Range in Queensland. He bides his time, trying to provoke his father into a fight that will end the standoff. Meanwhile he enjoys life. Big, handsome and friendly, Harry has numerous romances but avoids commitment until he meets Sara Grayson, a beautiful young girl from a neighbouring town, Elmsford. They are engaged at two big parties--one at her mother's horse property at Elmsford and the second at his parents' mansion in Monaldo. But a young woman appears at the Monaldo party. She has a young boy with her, claiming that Harry is the father, from an encounter a few years before. Harry admits to Sara that he had a brief, unfulfilled affair with her but denies the child is his. Sara, confused and shattered, breaks the engagement and flees home, resisting all attempts by Harry to explain. In her confusion and shock she makes a hasty and bad marriage which her husband soon leaves. Harry then reluctantly gives her up. Soon he has the inevitable confrontation with his father, putting him in hospital. He takes Una to Brisbane where he is recruited by a big American financial investigation company, Balfour G. He undergoes two years of intensive training and is marked to go overseas as a forensic accountant. In a break before he leaves, he traces his accuser and she confesses the whole thing was a shakedown because his family is wealthy. Sara hears of her confession and begs Harry to take her back which he does willingly. But her tricky husband constantly frustrates her attempts to get a divorce. Harry, using his Balfour training devises a slightly illegal scheme to help Sara free herself but it must be carried out while he is overseas. He goes overseas, having to leave Sara behind, and quickly becomes the company's top investigator for embezzlements and frauds, working almost non-stop all over the world. After two years, he is put in charge of the company's biggest case, an embezzlement in a huge European conglomerate which nobody has been able to solve. Harry devises a number of schemes to probe the embezzlement and is making good progress when he hears an attempt is likely to be made on his life. Sara is also having problems and he wants his scheme in Australia put into place to help her. Harry now has to face up to huge challenges to solve his own case and Sara's.....

He later transferred back to Australia for furlough before being posted to Singapore but resigned from Radio Australia and took up a position in the Queensland Government where he moved into administration.
