Overview

The Hood Fables Series is a serious that gives you a complete new perspective in urban fairy tables which are told as parodies from their original counterparts. These new stories serve as a tool to engage youth in reading again while creating dialogue with their parents. This could very well be the missing piece in the educational system that has demanded more urban reading materials.

About the author

LaDell R. Beamon grew up in South Memphis as the only child of Frances M. Beamon. His imagination became his best friend as he used his creative thought process to dash away on a fantastic voyage. Beamon's creativity has allowed him to be a creative force while developing not only characters, but a universe in which they live. While in Elementary School, Beamon was extremely shy which started him off in kindergarten as a child who was considered illiterate. His mother would invest in children's books that would capture his vivid imagination. He would have to read to his mother to sleep as she taught him the exercise of reading out loud. Reading out loud extended his confidence and also allowed his reading levels to soar in school. Little did he know, his imagination would become a power house inside of Memphis, TN and the huge community of at-risk youth. Now LaDell Beamon is the Founder/CEO of Heal the Hood Foundation of Memphis. The mission is to use the arts to enact social and economic empowerment amongst youth citywide. His work with youth has allowed him the opportunity to work with national celebrities such as Robert Townsend, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Master P, Pastor John P. Kee, Rapper Yo Yo, Demetria McKinney, Tank, Christopher Williams, Kia Shine, Sammie and countless of others. His work inside the Shelby County School System, Fayette County, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi and even Alaska has placed him in a climate for extreme outreach at its best. While having a passion to see youth transform, he is a part of a larger community. LaDell Beamon is connected to comic book creator Martheus Wade of MAW Productions, creator of Jett: Tales of the Toshigawa and The Shinobi Ninja Princess. Through this relationship, Beamon was able to create a comic book series entitled, "Evolution", which centers on a modern day urban super hero and his super powered team. The relationship with Martheus Wade also birthed a huge relationship with Aaron Liddell, who is the illustrator and partner for Hood Fables. With the powerhouses working together, Beamon feels that every child is not only capable of learning to read, but able to be transformed through their imagination because the characters are real and relatable to youth that have been in many cases placed in a box through stereotypes. Hood Fables is far from what you think the title is. It is an introduction to the massive creative mind of a kid from South Memphis that beat the odds to pave the way for those who thought the word "impossible" only applied to them. Beamon, is the future of creative innovation that brings back morals and a sense of pride. He resides in Memphis, TN and works everyday inside of the school system to help create another narrative for youth of all backgrounds. Beamon's work is dedicated to his grandmother in heaven, Minnie M. Beamon, and his mother, Frances M. Beamon that taught him to keep God first and the rest will take care of its self.
