Overview

Hammock Bound is about life and survival in the early 1900's in the Tampa Bay area.

Description

Hammock Bound is based on letters written in the early 1900's and stories from my Grandmother. The book is fictional, but I have researched to ensure the information is accurate for the era and location. This is a story is about a young socialite coming to the Tampa Bay area as a companion, from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She falls in love with a Farmer and they encounter many struggles in an attempt to be together. The area is in the town of Brandon, east of Tampa, and the house they built out of the woods is still standing.

About the author

Barbara Gaylor was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area. She grew up in the homestead with her grandmother, mother and siblings. Hammock Bound is her attempt to preserve the oral and written accounts of her grandmother’s life, thus preserving her family’s history. The story paints a clear picture of the early settling of Florida and the hardships endured.
