Green Margie and the Starlight

Green Margie and the Starlight is Margie’s hilarious, whacky, touching and delicious journey back to herself, starring a dog with a disorder, two foreign solar panel farm experts, a huge Afrikaans hotel owner, a sharp as razors shop cashier and many other cameos of the strange and wonderful people in a small South African Karoo town.

When 39 year-old biologist Margie’s certain plans to relocate to a remote village in the Karoo with her significant other fall to pieces, she has to endure a change of life and a change of heart as she is won over by the place and people of Waddedene. In a series of diary blog posts, Margie goes from the desperation of being alone, confused and heartbroken to the gradual realisation that she has been given the unusual gift of healing, in the strangest and most unusual place. Slowly, in the remotest Karoo village of Waddedene, Margie opens up to the people, animals and small miracles of nature that allow her to rediscover herself.

Megan Furniss is a writer, playwright, performer, director and improviser. She lives in Cape Town with her husband, two dogs and, possibly soon, three cats. She has written many plays and stories, but Green Margie and the Starlight is her first novel.
