Born in Colorado, Mike spent the first ten years of his life on the East Coast (New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey). He moved to Southern California when he was ten years old with his mother and brother when his parents got divorced. He graduated from San Marino High School (San Marino, California) and earned a bachelor of arts degree in business and public administration from the University of Puget Sound (Tacoma, Washington), where he also obtained his MBA degree. He worked as a university administrator for the University of Puget Sound and then as a contracting manager for the City of Seattle, Seattle Housing Authority, and University of Washington. He retired in 2010 after a 30-plus year career. After retirement, he continued providing consulting and training to public agencies, contractors, consultants, and industry associations in the area of public procurement and contracting.
