Fidelio, the teenage son of a peasant, is a healer—not that he'll admit it. In this sprawling tale, the rich and fulfilling life of a simple peasant man is explored against the backdrop of war-torn Mexico and the years following the revolution.

Rodolfo Walss was born and raised in northern Mexico. He attended the University of Coahuila, where he graduated as a medical doctor. At West Virginia University, he specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Upon completion of his training, he turned to his hometown of Torreon, where he became Professor and Chairman of the Ob/Gyn Division. He published nineteen research articles in peer reviewed journals in Mexico, and continued teaching until 1992 when he went into private practice in Brownsville, Texas. Since retiring in 2017., he has published two books—Hypnosis for Labor and Delivery and the novel Pride and Dignity. In addition to writing, he loves painting. He currently attends Glassell Art School in Houston, where he resides.
