God and the Generals

The Christ Church building plays a role in both the spiritual identity of worshippers and the national and cultural identity of its visitors. National history is not the message of Christianity and likewise, the message of the Christian Church cannot simply be superimposed on the history of the United States. The two operate in different dimensions. It becomes the charge of the Christ Church community to represent both story lines without conflating the Generals Washington and Lee with Jesus Christ and the presence of the eternal God.
