While performing as a successful business leader for more than fifty years, Edd McGrath’s busy life also included continuous responsibilities as Bible teacher, Elder in the church, and member of the Board of Directors of both Missionary Ventures and the Christian Motorcycle Association. Many are the good works that Edd sponsored and/or participated in with his beloved wife Janet. The McGraths have two adult children and three grandchildren. As his children left for college, Edd added to his busy schedule the responsibility to pray over and write daily emails to them on the Book of Proverbs. About this, he said I knew one of the first things they would do in the mornings was check their email. Since I wanted to call their attention to the Lord bright and early, I decided to take a verse from Proverbs that matched the calendar and write a short devotional they could read on their screen without scrolling. The goal was to plant a seed quickly, yet embed it in their minds and hearts for the day. This I started in 1992, and sent those messages every day for over twenty years, with just a few exceptions. Edd’s postings were not only appreciated by his children, but also by his secretary. In fact, she was so stirred that she requested permission to forward the studies to her prayer partners. From there, word of mouth about his insight into the Proverbs spread until a large network of daily readers blossomed and thrived for many years. His down-to-earth call for holy living was written with such freshness and clarity that many found it to be a blessed way to spend a few important minutes at the start of each day. It was no surprise (after Edd retired in 2015 at seventy-five) that he made time to publish his meditations in Proverbs as an eBook, God, Man & Woman, and Proverbs. It is the compilation of golden nuggets (one for each day of the year) that deeply stirred his readers for twenty years.
