IC Spencer was born in Glen Cove, New York. As a baby, she modeled for Constance Bannister, the renowned "world-famous baby photographer." One of her photos appeared in an insurance advertisement in Ebony magazine's December 1963 issue, and several others were featured in a datebook (calendar) created by African American civil and women's rights activist Dorothy Height in collaboration with Constance Bannister. IC Spencer graduated from Central Islip Senior High School in Central Islip, New York, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in management from Johnson and Wales College in Providence, Rhode Island. Growing up in a large, lively household, there was never a dull moment. Her father was born in Oyster Bay, New York. Her mother, born in Glen Cove, NY, was one of the best cooks she knew. Family holiday gatherings were treasured occasions, bringing together relatives from both sides of the family and filling the home with warmth, laughter, and love. Before and after her mother's passing, a series of painful events stirred deep emotions—anger, disbelief, hatred and ultimately, love. Writing became her outlet: just her thoughts, her emotions, a pen, and a blank page. As the words flowed, something unexpected happened—the anger eased, the pain softened, and the hatred found purpose. Those raw emotions soon took shape as the complex personalities of the characters in her novel, Glue. Fascinated by how people cut from the same cloth can turn out so differently, IC Spencer transformed her reflections into a gripping story of love, betrayal, and the fragile bonds that hold a family together—or tear it apart.
