Description

Leta, Audie and Willie are three young children, growing up in the country in the 1930's. They are very sad that there is not enough money for Christmas this year. The father has died and the mother has had to go work in a factory. Each day she leaves at day break and returns at dusk to make the children supper, read them a book or tell them a story and then tuck them into bed. The children live far from any neighbors and spend their long winter days playing together outside. Each day the highlight comes in the afternoon when the conductor waves to them as the trains zips past them. And then something magical happens...

About the author

Cathy Bottoms once heard a famous quote that tells us everyone should write a book, plant a tree and raise a child. So in keeping with that she chose to write a children's book based on a true story that happened to her mother in the 1930's. When her mother first told her the story she thought her mom made it up because it is a good Christmas story. Then she realized her mother was telling her about an experience that had happened to her when she was a little girl. Cathy was so touched by the story that she knew one day she would publish a book about this event.

Cathy lives in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a teaching certification and has enjoyed a wonderful, long career in education. When Cathy is not working on her children's book, she is exploring creative projects to make, traveling the world, looking for a good recipe or visiting with friends and relatives.
