About the author
Self proclaimed geezer, Doug Malewicki, is an energetic, now 76 year old trail runner, mud run racer, road cyclist, mountain biker, hiker, backpacker and fast packer.
Malewicki is an engineer, inventor, inveterate tinkerer and craftsman. Back in his younger days, he earned an M.S. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. with High Honors in the same field from the University of Illinois. He worked as an aerospace engineer at companies like Lockheed Missiles, Cessna and Northrop, where he got to be a small part of the huge teams working on high-profile projects like Apollo man-to-the-moon, Polaris submarine launched missiles, the B-2 Stealth Bomber and Citation Bizjets.
He has always been obsessively curious and able to "see" ways to improve everything. Over past decades, he has acquired patents in the fields of aviation, mass transportation, medicine, disaster response power equipment, robotics and even toys.
He is the designer/inventor of outlandish machines like Evel Knievel's X-1 canyon-jumping rocket and Robosaurus - a 40-foot-tall, fire-breathing, car-eating monster entertainment robot. This year, one of Doug's inventions is having its 50th Anniversary (1965 - 2015). It is his mildly sane, surprisingly successful Nuclear War card game.
He founded his company AeroVisions in 1974 in order to capitalize on his creativity and specialized knowledge in aerodynamics, structures and composites.
He has authored numerous technical papers, several books and a cover feature article for Scientific American magazine. Doug's book, FIT AT 75, highlights how he and several fellow senior colleagues have maintained their health, mobility and vitality.
