Description
Imagine a youngster born to former slaves, right after the Emancipation Proclamation, in the segregated, rural South. This humble, unassuming, loner survived sickness, death, depression, and isolation due to his connection to God and the Bible. The Slave Religion his mother poured into his soul preserved him through a lifetime of crises, hardships, persecutions, and pain. His trials became triumphs as his faith navigated him through unbearable storms. Biblical heroes molded he and his followers into strong disciples with scriptural principles and disciplined lifestyles.
These marginalized sharecroppers have evolved into one of the largest denominations in America. This tremendous growth across the country and around the world has happened because people see a difference in the Church of God in Christ. The founder, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason, lived his entire life focused on God, the Bible, prayer and fasting. His legacy of total submission to God is still an important aspect of the Church of God in Christ tradition. Their love, faith, compassion, strength, praise and worship all signify the special anointing that sets the Church of God in Christ as a beacon of light.
