Fables of Fabulous Animals describes the noticeably human affairs of family pets and other animals. Quite like Aesop’s Fables, each contains a moral, or at least, what passes for a moral. One or two of the Fables are rather poignant, but mostly the atmosphere is light, playful and pleasantly quaint.

Stephen Stapley lives in a tall, narrow house in Northamptonshire with his wife Lynda Hayes, two sons Adam and Galen, and Dusty Guinevere Nightrider the Labradoodle. In the long, narrow garden live three chickens, Bessie Smith, Big Mama Thornton and Blind Lemon Chicken.
