About the author
Herbert R. Dogggette, Jr. was born in 1933, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Oakwood College (University) in Huntsville, Alabama for two years and graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.A. in business Administration and from The George Washington University with an M.S. in Public Administration. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.
After serving two years in the U.S. Army, Doggette began his career at the Social Security Administration (SSA) as a mail and supply clerk. During the next 30 years he served in a variety of increasingly responsible positions at SSA, including Acting Commissioner on two occasions. He also worked a year as a Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
Doggette married Betty Burton Branch in 1959. They currently reside in Sebring, Florida and attend the Ridge Area Seventh-day Adventist Church. They are the proud parents of two adult children: Michelle Marie Carroll, and David Matthew Doggette. A third child, Carol Lynn Doggette, died in 2006 at the age of 42.
They also have five beautiful, talented, accomplished grandchildren: Kelli, Traci, Austin, Lindsey and Mason.
Betty and Herb love to travel and during retirement have been privileged to take many trips – both in the States and internationally. They have been on over 40 cruises.
They live in a Retirement Community and stay very busy with golf, tennis, church and community activities.
