Note from the Editor. This book of poetry is a gift of adventure, romance, and passion, encompassing the full spectrum of emotions. From anger to sublime joy and just the thrill of being alive, the author somehow takes the mundane, everyday existence and elevates it to a position of elegance and eloquence beyond measure. One thing is certain, once you've met Bridget Elkins through her work, or in person, you will never look at life the same. Her poetry is that powerful. Editor, Sheila Lowe-Burke
Bridget Elkins is one of those rare and unique individuals who has been gifted with the power to reach inside your heart and touch your very soul. Her poetry will leave you laughing and crying, nodding your head in agreement and amazement. You will feel that somehow she read your secret thoughts and feelings, walked with you throughout your day, your childhood, your past, your dreams, and somehow translated all of this into the written word. Sheila Lowe-Burke, Editor If it is true that the eyes are the window to the soul, then author Bridget Elkins has rolled up the sash and thrown open the shutters in order that we may all look both ways in her book of poems Equation For Mixed Emotions. Ms. Elkins has observed her world-the world we share-and offered her impressions, sometimes bright, sometimes dark, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, but always full of promise! Her unique ability to express such personal and heartfelt feelings in such simple and understandable terms is the windex that allows us to see out so clearly. The window is open-feel the breeze, look at the stars, see people and watch what's all out there, and it's all in here, within these pages. Read each poem and look upon her world, then run outside and look back in through the same window at the gentle and compassionate soul of Ms. Elkins. John Latini, Singer-Songwriter. The beauty of Bridget's poetry is that she simplifies the profound and brings it down to a level that we all can relate to. It is this simplicity that allows the reader to enjoy the sentiments without struggling to find the meaning. Sherri Muzher, Free-Lance Journalist and International Affairs Analyst
About the author
Bridget Elkins resides in a lovely, rural setting in the community of New Boston, Michigan, not far from her favorite fishing hole and apple orchard, along with husband, her beautiful daughter, and her long-time companion, Colby a Llewellin Setter. By day, Bridget spends hours providing therapeutic recreational activities for seniors in a healthcare facility where she presents herself as accomplished, organized, efficient and professional. By night, Bridget pens the outpouring of emotions that make up the body of her poetry drawn from life experiences, meditative observations of nature, and interactions with everyone around her. Bridget has a life story that, like many, has not always been pleasant. In fact, she has overcome many obstacles and personal struggles...ah, but something must be saved for her next volume! Suffice it to say for the time being, she has triumphed by turning personal tragedy into heartfelt poetry that translates into healing for herself and her readers and inspires others to do the same.
