The author,
Abdi Guled Elmi, was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. He started working as a
freelance writer and later as an editor for the Somali National Newspaper “Xiddigta
Oktoobar” for several years until the beginning of the civil war in Somalia in
1991.
Mr. Elmi became the first court
certified Somali interpreter in Minnesota and the nation in 2009. He now holds
interpreter certification from several states including Oregon, Ohio,
Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Kentucky. Mr. Elmi is also a translator and
interpreter contractor for the Language Services of the U.S. Department of
State where he covers both national and international assignments.
Mr. Elmi is also a certified language
tester and a member of the American Translators Association (ATA) and the
National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT).
