The book gives a historic view in prose, of the first people of Puerto Rico that arrived to New York city seeking employment and formed The Barrio Latino, an area in east Harlem. They brought with them a strong culture of community living, their music and food, beliefs, language and heritage. The poetry goes in the heart of the people with the nostalgia that remains after the loss of their mother land.
About the author
Carmelo Delgado was born in Collores de Humacao, Puerto Rico, on April 28, 1934. When he graduated from the 9th grade, his parents sent him to New York City so that he would get a job and become a man. At the age of 27 , he enrolled in evening school, obtaining his academic diploma 3 years later. Thereafter he enrolled in the City University of New York , where he received his bachelor of arts degree, the first person from his family to do so. A few years later, he received a master's degree in Public Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice of New York. He moved to Florida where he married Iris, his second wife, in 1993. They live in Brooksville Florida. He has published 3 books, The Man and His Dream, Yo tambien Soy de Collores and Ecos de Barrio Latino.He is still writing.
