This is the second book in a series of two about sea life and underwater photography of fish, invertebrates, and one humpback whale. In this volume, Scott teamed up with a diving buddy and accomplished underwater photographer, Mike Rineer. Some of the writings are informative, others fanciful, all designed to entertain and share our appreciation for the marine environment. Growing up in southern California, Scott was drawn to the sea early in his life. His first job, after undergraduate studies, was at Scripps Institution of Oceanography as a research technician studying marine polar fishes. It was there he became an advanced certified diver. After more education and work in more terrestrial arenas, he finally retired to Maui to return to the sea and its wonders. With the camaraderie of other divers, Scott chose to document some of the local marine creatures just for the enjoyment of their unique adaptations and beauty. Photography and poetry is an outlet for this desire. After decades of diving around Maui, he has seen the decline of populations of fish most likely due to destruction of their habitat. Mike was born and raised in a Southern California beach city and from early in life was drawn to the ocean. At first, the draw was many different surface activities and then 55 years ago he became a certified scuba diver which opened new and amazing ocean experiences. After many thousands of dives, he continues to have a deep respect and be overwhelmed with the wonder, beauty, and diversity of the world's oceans. As underwater photography equipment 63 became available, he started documenting his diving experiences with photos of fish and ocean critters from his dive travels around the world. His photos are emphasized in this work. The oceans are under tremendous stress for many different reasons and sharing photos and poetry brings a sense of purpose hoping others will share our concern and appreciate what lies beneath the waves.
