Overview
Down The Rio Tamesi is an adventure story about a trip down a river in Mexico. Carlos is from Mexico and living in the United States. He feels honored when his science teacher asks him to go down the Rio Tamesi, a river near where his family lived in Mexico. The river is unchartered, and the group encounters unexpected rapids and waterfalls. The trip, supposed to take four hours, turns into a three day trip without food or provisions. Carlos feels insecure with the others who are also in his science class because they shun him at school. When his teacher is injured, he and the other boy go alone for help. Carlos learns to swim, climbs a mountain to get above a flash flood, and uses plants to heal a wound on the boy's leg. By the end of the trip, Carlos has enough confidence to feel that he can overcome any problems.
