Dirty Soul

Dirty Soul is McKenzie Teter's debut collection of poetry and prose. This work focuses on the ideas of love, loss, family and femininity and grapples with the fact that a lived-in soul cannot possibly be 'clean'. It explores the hardships and small beauties of life while guiding the reader along through words and color. Each page has been marked with one of the author's five chosen colors to distinguish her representation of life experiences and the things that have come to stain her soul. Each color's meaning is described in the opening of the collection to ensure that the reader is fully aware of the author's intent for each individual poem. It is heartfelt, tear-filled and intended to connect readers to their own colors.

McKenzie Teter is an emerging poet with Dirty Soul being her debut collection. Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, she uses the themes and traditions from her adolescence to help drive her work. McKenzie graduated from Queens University of Charlotte with a BA in English and Creative Writing and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree with a focus in poetry.
