Overview
Dorothy Myrick has written a memoir reflecting on the experiences that led to the thrill of her lifetime-getting her scuba diving certification. She was terrified of being in water that was merely knee deep and now she is a certified scuba diver. Her story is not just one of overcoming such a paralyzing fear, but it is also one of doing so under extraordinary circumstances. She was born with a with a condition of the left arm called radial hemimelia (a reduction in the radial bone of the forearm and the absence of a thumb and index finger). She recalls how she felt as a child growing up with this birth defect and how it produced an inner drive to never give up. This amazing journey of learning to scuba dive changed her life--along with the ups and downs along the way. This memoir is an example of her resolve, determination and can-do-attitude.
