Overview
Dancing Out of the Dark is a collection of stories contributed by members of the Ballroom Dance community in Connecticut and New York State. Ballroom Dance plays a very important role in the lives of those who participate. People come to Ballroom Dance for many, varied reasons. Each of these dancers find much more than learning a few dance steps; they all find a brand new social network and close friendships are formed. Dancers find people they can confide in and people they can turn to when problems arise. Dancers regularly attend events at various venues in the area and these events become meeting places where they discuss the many things that are part of their lives. Lunch and dinner dates, theater and films, sporting events and much more become a part of the social networks that form. Of course the dancing is always there, offering a fun way to exercise. When Covid - 19 struck, Ballroom Dancing came to an almost total halt. Consequently, all of the benefits that Ballroom Dance provided also came to a halt. This book describes, in the dancer's own words, how those losses impacted the lives of the dance community
