Curls is an interactive children's book written and illustrated by Chelsea Heard. The book takes the reader through the life of Mackenzie Madison as she gets ready for school, while also emphasizing the reoccurring problem with her curly hair. As time passes on, Mackenzie learns to accept her curly hair, while also encouraging girls all over the world to accept their insecurities, and flaunt their flaws, because flaws make us all beautiful.
Curls is an interactive children's book written and illustrated by Chelsea M. Heard. Curls takes the reader through the busy life of Mackenzie Madison as she gets ready for school. Everything in the story seems to be going well, until Mackenzie realizes she has to tackle her wild, crazy curls! Mackenzie tries to morph and change her hair, but that soon leads to an unsuccessful match. She then realizes that her hair is what makes her unique, and soon accepts her long, curly mane as a way to separate herself from others. In the back of the book, the reader will also be provided with pages to draw him or herself in multiple scenarios. The reader not only gets to enjoy an uplifting story, but also gets the chance to be creative! My hopes are that you and your children love the book as much as I do, making it a perfect classic for all families to enjoy.
About the author
Chelsea Heard is a 19 year-old graduate from Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego California, whose love, passion to help others and art helped her create this book. Much like Mackenzie Madison, Chelsea took her personal experiences with her curly hair, and created a relatable, fun, children’s book, that would encourage young girls from all backgrounds to celebrate themselves, and be proud of who they are.
