Overview

Printed in Color, this 'inspirational digest' promotes character development & mindfulness.
It provides a comprehensive view of human character using figurative language in the form of ‘crib notes’ to provoke thought & introspection—a 'handbook' of short, concise, and memorable phrases that influence mindset & action, and illuminate the type of character most beneficial to well-being & prosperity.

Human character is examined using 111 crib notes curated by eight key character attributes/chapters (orientation, persona, perspective, charisma, grit, empathy, integrity, and stature).

The target audience is humankind in general as 'you carry your character with you,' although messaging can be segmented to reach a desired audience based on how it is applied personally or professionally. The varied nature of messaging segmentation by audience is achievable inasmuch as the contextual interpretation for crib notes is based on the author's background and life experience as a student/athlete, military veteran, spouse, parent, and executive with a professional pedigree grounded in leadership roles across major business disciplines.

"Character is Destiny."  A person’s character determines their path in life. A leader’s character largely determines the paths of those they're leading, influencing their lives. A society’s strength and quality reflect the character of its people.

Description

HUMAN CHARACTER is profoundly complex, encompassing layers of genetics, beliefs, experiences, and environment. While it is deeply rooted in a person's essential make-up, character is initially shaped in childhood and developed over a lifetime, evolving with experiences and social interaction—a continuous cycle of experiencing, reflecting, choosing, and acting.

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE (including sayings, quotes, metaphors, idioms, etc.) has markedly impacted human communication. It includes short, concise, and memorable phrases that are powerfully effective in influencing outlook and conduct. Figurative language is an effective learning tool for providing understanding of complex concepts and ideas, including character.

We bring simplicity to the complexity of character for children by utilizing those short, concise, and memorable phrases like 'don't cry over spilled milk' to regulate emotion, and the Golden Rule to guide them in cooperative play and social interaction. Through the ages, adults have created an abundance of figurative language for deeper understanding, expression, and connection.

Printed in color, and assembled here in the form of 'Crib Notes,' is a 'handbook' of sayings, quotes, metaphors, idioms, etc. relative to eight key character attributes, along with associated context garnered from my personal and professional life experience. The book shares figurative language I've captured over the years that holds meaning to me relative to my evolving character.

Efforts to improve upon our behavior and strengthen our character individually, will tone our humanity collectively.  As such, CRIB NOTES on CHARACTER also constitutes A Handbook to Humanity.
