In January 2010, Karen Garcia heard the words from a surgeon no one wants to hear: “You have breast cancer. ” Turning to a friend for comfort, Karen shared with her the treatment options the surgeon had detailed…surgery, chemotherapy, and possibly radiation. At that point, Karen heard words from her friend she hadn’t expected to hear: “Take a deep breath. You need to know those aren’t your only options.” This book is the compilation of what Karen has learned thus far as a result of the journey she took after hearing her friend’s words. That journey has included only alternative cancer therapies, excluding surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. It has certainly been a road less traveled and less understood by the majority of those diagnosed with cancer and their doctors. But it has also been one that’s made all the difference for Karen and how she has chosen to conquer her cancer and live her life. Now a freelance writer, editor/proofreader and transcriptionist, Karen is the mother of three grown children and five grandchildren. She grew up in the western New York area but is now a long-time resident of St. Charles county in Missouri.
