Description
Chasing Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit…
Volume 1
Chasing Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is a volume of books showcasing a collection of photographs and words of wisdom by Ron Elliott.
Ron has made his home in Arctic Bay, Nunavut since 1991. Originally from Ontario, he moved to the quiet of the Arctic to work on his portfolio of poems, essays and art. He has always loved photography and is rarely seen without his camera.
Ron’s photography captures the incredible beauty of the northern landscape. The contrast between the harsh, unrelenting wilderness and its soft, pastel beauty is unparalleled. His work represents not only Ron’s love for the landscape but the spiritual connection that is made through every image.
All photos included in this volume are from the Canadian High Arctic. In Inuktitut, the High Arctic is called Quttiktuq and includes the northern communities of Grise Fiord, Resolute Bay and Arctic Bay. The photos, within this volume, capture the true essence and beauty of Canada’s newest territory, Nunavut.
The photos depict the various seasons, which span from twenty-four hours of darkness to twenty-four hours of daylight. They also showcase the ice, snow and beautiful flowers that bloom in this harsh environment. If you have always felt an attachment to the land, then this book will take you there.
Nunavut, home of the Inuit for centuries, has a quiet voice gently speaking its hidden knowledge. This traditional Inuit knowledge or Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is the voice of the land passed down through generations of Elders. If you open your mind and listen for this wisdom, you can connect with it and learn from it. Some of this knowledge has been captured in short sayings and words of wisdom included in this book.
As a long time Northerner, Ron often feels that he is constantly chasing Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit. At times, while out on the land, in moments of complete silence and reflection, your mind expands and the earth stands still. For some, they say, they can hear the voice of God.
It is hoped that this book has captured some of this infinite beauty and will have you come to feel this deep, inner peace. The truth of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is a life journey of learning by doing, self-reflection and mastery.
Please come and share that journey with him.
