Description

Buddhist Temple of Salinas celebrated 100th anniversary on October 12, 2024 with a temple service followed by a luncheon celebration. The book is a commemorative edition and it contains the event program information, along with photographs from the event. There is a detailed history of the temple with historical context included. It is the most detailed history of the temple ever put together. It is followed by about 50 pages of family histories created by individual families who are mostly members, but it include some former members. Total number of pages: 220.

About The Author

The 100th Anniversary Book for the Buddhist Temple of Salinas, established in 1924 was prepared by Tsutomu T. Yamashita. The author has been the Temple President from 2020 to 2024. The History Section of the book has been compiled using previous versions prepared for the 75th, 80th and 90th anniversaries, and also the BCA 100th year anniversary book that was published in 1998. Author also relies on 57 year relationship that the author has had with the temple. The author grew up in Salinas as one of the flower grower families that came to Salinas in the mid-1960s. The author obtained BS, MS, and PhD from Stanford University, and worked in Silicon Valley in a tech start-up company most of his career. He retired in 2012 and moved back to Salinas in 2016.
